Kachumber - Indian Spiced Onion Tomato Cucumber Salad

Kachumber is a very popular vegan Indian Salad. Its made with fresh veggies like onions, cucumber, tomatoes and tossed with some Indian spices, freshly squeezed lemon juice and coriander leaves. Its complements most Indian dishes and hence a staple in most homes as well as restaurants. There are many variations of this recipe and am sure every house has their own. But for today's post I am sharing my version

This best part about this salad is you can serve it with a basic dressing of salt, pepper lemon juice or jazz it up like I did for this recipe. Both ways it tastes amazing. Personally, I like to add some heat to this salad in the form of freshly chopped green chillies or red chilli powder. But that's completely optional and to your taste. Freshly ground cumin seeds powder is my other favorite for this dish. Although its optional I highly recommend adding it. The raw veggies used here can be chopped as per your liking i.e. either finely or chunky (like I have for this recipe). I usually chop the salad fine if I am serving it with Rice and Dal as that makes it easier to mix with Rice and eat. 

Be it Dal/Rice or Roti Sabzi on the menu this tangy and spicy salad is a must on the side. Its simple, easy to make and can be made in a jiffy. So what are you waiting make some today. 

Now to the recipe... 


Ingredients:
1 medium sized tomato chopped 
1 cup cucumber peeled and chopped 
1/2 onion peeled and chopped
salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp Lemon juice (or to taste)
1 green chilli finely chopped (or red chilli powder to taste)
handful of finely chopped coriander leaves
1 tsp roasted cumin seeds powder (optional)
1/2 tsp chaat masala (optional)
2-3 mint leaves finely chopped (optional)
pinch of black salt (kala namak) (optional)

Method:
In a mixing bowl, add the tomatoes, cucumber, onions, green chillies followed by all the seasoning like salt, pepper, roasted cumin seeds powder, chaat masala and finely chopped coriander leaves. Add the lemon juice and toss everything together so that its well combined. 



That's it our spicy and tangy Kachumbar - Indian Spiced Onion Tomato Cucumber Salad is ready. Serve it fresh with you favorite meal be it Roti Sabzi or Dal Rice. Enjoy!!
